Here’s a quick post for you all. I received my first Victrix plastic kits from Sherwood Wargames (Athenian Armored Hoplites and Greek Peltasts) so of course I had to build a ton of them right away. I constructed a few basic units of everything to start.
Being as I have never painted up ancients before, I decided to start small. Given that the soldier-type units are broken down in groups of threes (three hoplites, three slingers, etc…) it seemed practical then to work on one group.
I went searching for hoplite images on Google; honestly there were slim pickings and that was a little depressing. But one thing I really thought looked great were the blue small-clothes against the bronze armor; perfect for Athenians! This was going to be the color scheme for my Athenian Lochus.
Note: I realize there were not ‘uniformed’ armies in Classical Greece. But these are my miniatures, so that is how I am painting them.
Here are a few Work-In-Progress shots of my miniatures. I just need to add shield transfers (not in hand yet), matte-varnish them and base ’em up! I will post more shots later as I get more done.
I was actually going for a more pastel blue than a deep blue. But let me know in the comments what you think.
